De acordo com informações da BBC, o primeiro serviço mobile payment do Reino Unido foi lançado oficialmente na última semana. Algumas redes varejistas e comércios da região, como a Boots e o McDonalds, já aderiram a tecnologia que permite a realização de pagamentos através do telefone celular.

O serviço é oferecido em parceria pela operadora Orange Telecom e pela operadora de cartões de crédito Barclaycard; para usar o sistema, chamado Quick Tap, os usuários precisarão possuir contas com ambas as empresas, assim como utilizar um aparelho celular compatível com a tecnologia de pagamentos sem contato (contactless) Near Field Communication, ou simplesmente NFC.

Somente pequenas transações, inicialmente, serão permitidas pelo serviço Quick Tap, limitadas ao valor de 15 libras. Os usuários também poderão carregar seus celulares com, no máximo, 100 libras em créditos para utilizar nas transações.

“Ter uma carteira em meu celular tornou-se algo muito conveniente para fazer compras enquanto estou passeando, e eu gosto também do fato de ele [o Quick Tap] me permitir acompanhar o que eu estou gastando”, afirmou David Chan, executivo-chefe da Barclaycard Consumer.

Outras lojas e restaurantes, como o Subway, o Little Chef e o National Trust, também já assinaram acordo com a Orange e a Barclaycard e devem disponibilizar a tecnologia de pagamentos em suas unidades do Reino Unido em breve.

Partnering with mobile internet specialist Volantis will enable Brazilian integrator CenturyTech Solutions to meet demands

for increased portability – not only in cell phones but also in devices such as gaming consoles, CenturyTech founder Adriano Alves told BNamericas.

The two companies announced an alliance to expand Volantis’ mobile solutions in Latin America and empower CenturyTech as the reseller of those solutions in the region. Mobile internet traffic has increased six-fold in Latin America since 2008, the companies said in a statement, adding that smartphone penetration is expected to jump 325% regionally by 2014.

“As the majority of businesses are wagering to invest heavily in mobile technology, the growth potential for us is exponential,” Alves said, but declined to provide specific figures. “I could imagine our numbers mirroring the growth of cellular phones here in Brazil.”

Some of CenturyTech’s more popular offerings involve “token” technology, which allows customers to make purchases through SMS messages, Alves said. Tokens afford businesses many advantages in receiving payments: retail stores can cut out third-parties such as banks and credit cards, which regularly charge fees between 5-8%.

SMS messages also remove the need to ask for identification numbers, known as CPFs in Brazil, as they are already linked to the clients’ mobile accounts.

“Our system even creates the possibility to pay through a virtual account from a cellular phone that is pre-paid and without a data plan,” which brings in a large segment that has previously been excluded, Alves said.

Partnering with Volantis – Antenna enables CenturyTech to offer applications that will maintain their intended formats across multiple devices, and also reinforces the credibility of CenturyTech’s solutions, he added.
